A 396.2-meter-high bird’s-eye view of Danzhai County in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. Located in the southeastern region of southwest China’s Guizhou Province, Danzhai County lifted its 6 towns, 91 villages, and 166 districts out of poverty in two stages. Impoverished people living in especially wretched environments were relocated, while those meeting certain conditions were helped through industrial development. With 20,000 residents out of poverty in 2015, Danzhai has effectively freed itself from poverty’s shackles. [Photo by Zhang Yanliang]
