The FAO Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition, known as FSN Forum, was launched on 16th October 2007. Ten years later it is a thriving and well-known platform where food security and nutrition policies and programmes are discussed and knowledge is shared and leveraged among a large number of interested stakeholders.

As of today, the Forum brings together over 10,000 registered members who are experts and development practitioners from over 170 countries and represent a variety of professional affiliations – see chart below.

Using a number of different online and offline methods, the Forum allows to gather feedback and convey constructive dialogue on the multiple issues that affect food and agriculture in order to improve research, programmes and policies at the global, regional and national level.

FSN Forum activities include: online discussions and consultations, surveys, calls for best practices and case studies, webinars, network building and integration of online and face to face interactions. All can be either open to anyone interested or targeted to specific audiences or sets of stakeholders.

Topics range from specific aspects of food security and nutrition to cross cutting development issues, touching on poverty, social protection, natural resources, rural-urban dynamics, climate change etc..

The Forum is facilitated by a multinational team of policy and knowledge sharing experts who ensure relevance of issues approached, tailored outreach, smooth exchanges among participants and timely feedback /summaries.

Activities are held in all UN languages (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian) and outcomes are published and made available to anyone interested.

The Forum platform receives on average 10,000 visits from all around the world (214 countries and territories in 2017).

Over the years the Forum partnered with a variety of institutions and initiatives in the field of food security and nutrition to expand their outreach and their interaction with relevant stakeholders. Among these are the Committee on World Food Security and its High Level Panel of Experts, the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, the International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) at the global level; the Red ICEAN, CARICOM and the LANSA Consortium at the regional level; the Agriculture Information Institute of CAAS in China and the University of Central Asia in Kyrgystan at country level.
