Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 34,074

The death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 34,074 as 12:00 PM Tuesday, according to the earthquake relief headquarters of the State Council.

And 245,963 people were injured and 32,361 missing in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province last Monday.

As of Monday midnight, up to 360,159 people trapped during the quake had been rescued and transported to safe areas, among them 6,375 were excavated from rubble left behind by the quake.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs have allocated 278,462 tents, 783,984 quilts and 1.78 million cotton-padded clothes to the quake zones by 1:00 PM Tuesday.
