China to Maintain Steady Economic Development

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said the government's primary economic tasks are to maintain steady economic development and to continue emphasizing agricultural production.

At a State Council meeting on Wednesday in Beijing, Wen Jiabao noted that prominent problems have developed due to the quickened pace of economic development, such as irregular growth in fixed asset investment.

Other problems have surfaced in the foreign trade, utilities, and transport sectors.

Wen Jiabao stressed at the meeting that the government is working to keep economic development steady and to tackle these problems.
