China to Build IT Bridges in Asia
China wants to cooperate more with other countries to boost the information technology (IT) industry in Asia.

Minister of Information Industry Wang Xudong made the remark on Sunday at a panel session focusing on the IT industry at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2003.

"China will, in accordance with its World Trade Organization (WTO) commitments, further open up the IT industry and enhance trade and cooperation in the field," Wang said.

Policies and information services will be boosted to support the development of foreign IT firms in China, the minister said.

He said China particularly welcomed investors who wanted to set up technological research and development centers, participate in the reform of state-owned enterprises and the development of western regions.

Wang urged developed countries to quicken technology transfers to developing countries and train their personnel.
