Author a Model of Charity

A former Canadian model pledged on Sunday to give to charity part of the proceeds from the Chinese translation of her book about how to make it on the catwalk.

Five yuan (US$0.65) from each sale of "More Than a Pretty Face: the Essential Book for Canadian Models" by Heather Young will go to the Shanghai Charity Foundation, Young said at a book signing in Shanghai.

The book costs 38 yuan.

Young said the idea for the donation came from her sense of social responsibility.

"I believe it is important to give back to the community in which I'm doing business. The people of Shanghai have already been welcoming to me; I want to reciprocate the goodwill," she said.

Young was a model for 14 years. She launched her career in 1992 and modeled in 12 countries. She has appeared in hundreds of magazines and catalogues and was included as one of Canada's top 10 models in French-Canadian fashion magazine Clin d'Oeil.
