Blood Bank Plea

The Beijing Red Cross Blood Center yesterday appealed to the public to donate Rh-negative blood to fill blood stocks for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Beijing plans to store 800 of the 200-ml units of Rh-negative blood for the Olympics, but so far the collection center has just 400 units. Rh-negative blood group people are rare in China accounting for 0.3 percent of the total population of the Han ethnic group. The Rh-negative blood group accounts for about 15 percent of Caucasians.
