President Hu Jintao will make proposals on deepening cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region at the 16th summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, China's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei made the remarks at a briefing on Hu's state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece from November 16 to 26, during which time Hu will also attend the APEC meeting on November 22-23.

The theme of the 16th APEC summit is "A new commitment to Asia-Pacific development".

APEC leaders will discuss issues such as the world financial crisis, supporting the Doha Round of negotiations at the World Trade Organization, food and energy security, regional economic integration, corporate responsibility, climate change and disaster prevention and reduction.

He said China hopes the meeting will hold an in-depth discussion of the global economic and financial situation. China also hopes the meeting will show APEC's resolution to support the sound development of the multilateral trade system, to push forward the Doha Round.

While in Peru, Hu will attend the 16th Economic Leaders Meeting of the APEC forum and the APEC 2008 CEO Summit. He will also participate in a dialogue with leaders of the APEC forum and representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council.
