An auto store restored full-scale business Wednesday after it was burnt down in the deadly riot more than four months ago.
The Geely store saw more than 51 cars and about one million pieces of accessories damaged by rioters on July 5. The three-storey building was also ablazed, said Tian Yuxia, owner of the store, a major branch of China's Geely Automobile in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
"We suffered 6.85 million yuan (US$1 million) in economic loss in the riot. It was the local government, the Geely group, and public donations that helped us to resume business," said Guo Jianxin, general manager of the store and Tian's husband, at the reopening ceremony.
The government of Urumqi offered 3 million yuan in subsidy to the store and the Geely Group provided more than 1 million yuan for the rebuilding project, said Guo.
The July riot left 197 people dead and more than 1,600 injured in Urumqi, badly hurt people's feelings and undermined social stability and economy.
