News media and scholars from various countries have expressed support for the measures being taken by the Chinese government to make the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region more stable after the July 5 riot in Urumqi.

The International Daily News, a major Chinese-language newspaper in Indonesia, said in an editorial that it supports China in taking timely and effective measures to stop the criminals' violent acts.

The July 5 riot was a premeditated crime orchestrated by separatists from outside the country, which smacks of terrorism, the newspaper said.

The monumental work of China's 60 years of peaceful development is not only the riches of China itself, but also a treasure of the human history, the newspaper said. China's unity and stability contribute greatly to world peace and development, said the editorial.

China's fight against separatism and terrorism is of progressive significance to the whole world and should be fully supported by people of the world, including Indonesians, the newspaper said.

The editorial also called for enhanced vigilance against the behind-the-scene instigation by terrorist and extremist groups, and their distortion of the July 5 riot.

Nouvelles D'Europe, a major Chinese-language newspaper based in France, said in a commentary that from the perspective of global security, China's maintenance of the stability of Xinjiang concerns not only its own core interests, but also the stability of central and south Asia and the international fight against terrorism.

Like most countries in the world, the commentary said, China would never tolerate or compromise on the "three forces" of extremism, separatism and terrorism.

The new developments after the July 5 violence further proved the appropriateness and legitimacy of China's crackdown on the "three forces," and the necessity and urgency of China's joint actions with the international community in fighting terrorism.
