During 1970 to 1989, Hanipa adopted ten orphans. In order to better take care of them, she used to cut her sleeping hours to four every day.

Hanipa's neighbor Tian Yuying said, "She cares for those adopted children even better than her own children. She is a great mother in my heart."

Hanipa adopted Wang Zuolin along with his three younger sisters after their parents died in ni 1977. She has been caring for Wang as her own son.

Wang Zuolin of Hui nationality said, "I was laid off in 1998 and life turned very difficult. But my parents spent their only two-thousands yuan to buy me a car."

Now, all of the adopted children have grown up and have their own families and careers. They can not take their minds off their seventy-year-old mother, wherever they are. The extended family now has more than 180 members from six minority groups.
