On Saturday evening, some people began to spread information on the Internet, calling for a demonstration in Urumqi. And on Sunday, Rebiya called on her accomplices in the country to further incite unrest.

Regional government authorities say the situation is now under control. Police have arrested some rioters, but the number of people involved in Sunday's violence remains unknown.

They also say police in Xinjiang and Guangdong are jointly investigating the brawl to ensure justice.
