Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo Friday met with Albanian President Bamir Topi at the Shanghai World Expo for celebrations to mark the China National Pavilion Day.

Wu, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said Topi's presence at the China National Pavilion Day showed the importance Albania attached to the World Expo and the goodwill the Albanian people felt towards the Chinese.

Wu extended President Hu Jintao's greetings to Topi and hoped his visit would promote understanding and cooperation between the two countries. "I hope this visit will leave a great impression on you and your wife."

Topi congratulated Wu on China's National Pavilion Day and thanked China for inviting him to attend the celebrations on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China.

China and Albania established diplomatic relations in 1949.
