A total of 1,200 garbage cans with a capacity of 372,000 liters will be added to the World Expo park after garbage can shortage was reported during its trial operation.

A spokesman with the Environmental Industry, a Shanghai-based company responsible for collecting garbage at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo park, said Thursday garbage cans were especially insufficient in areas where cafeteria and entertainment facilities were located.

Among the newly-added garbage cans, 1,000 of them will each have a capacity of 240 liters while the rest 660 liters. Most of the park's garbage cans now have a capacity of 80 liters.

The spokesman did not give a timetable for the installation of the garbage cans.

Differentiated color patterns will be applied to help boost the efficiency of garbage collection, according to the company spokesman.
