Luxembourg Unveils 'Golden Lady' in Shanghai World Expo

Luxembourg Pavilion on Wednesday unveiled the country's national treasure "Golden Lady" in the Shanghai World Expo.
The "Lady" made "her" first overseas journey since birth and arrived in Shanghai for the Expo on April 8.
Created by Luxembourg's renowned artist Claus Cito in 1923, the statue is a war memorial dedicated to the thousands of Luxembourgers who volunteered for service in the armed forces during the first world war.
Through the statue which symbolizes independence, peace and liberation, Luxembourgers want to show their friendliness to the whole world and express their wish for a harmonious world , said Robert Goebbels, the Pavilion's commissioner general.
Before coming to China, the "Golden Lady" was situated in the Constitution Square in central Luxembourg city.
Placed on top of a 3-meter-tall steel pedestal at the entrance of the Luxembourg Pavilion, the "Lady" will stay in Shanghai during the Expo, which will run from May 1 to Oct. 31.
