Famous Portuguese singers Mariza and Sonia Tavares will perform at the Shanghai Expo 2010 for Portugal's Day on June 6, said the Portuguese Commissariat on Monday.
Programs celebrating the Portugal's Day at the Shanghai Expo will include the song "Arruada Minhota," a folklore event and a performance by Zes Pereiras, a Portugese group of Viana do Castelo city, said Rolando Borges Martins, spokesman of the Commissariat for the Expo,
Borges said that Mariza, a two-time Grammy Awards nominee, "has left Fado for a tour around the world."
Meanwhile, Sonia Tavares, vocal of the pop band "The Gift," will also perform at the show.
Borges said the core concept that Portugal will present at the Shanghai Expo is "a square of the world" and "a world of energies." The idea is to promote the creativity and innovation of the Portuguese people and Portugal's geo-strategic position as a port on the Atlantic Ocean.
The "Square" represents "the central place of urban life and work, and is a territory of memory and a display of changes," he added.
The project for Portugal's Pavilion, which costs about 3 million euros, has been undertaken by a consortium led by the company Pal Asiaconsult Lda.
