China's 1st Celebration of Int'l Women's Day

Women's activist He Xiangning presided over the first celebration of International Women's Day by women from all walks in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, which called on them to participate in revolution, the fight against imperialist aggression and the overthrow of feudal warlords and to work together towards women's liberation. The celebration also advocated women's equal rights in employment, education and politics, social security and protection for mother and child, and the outlawing of concubinage and prostitution.

The Chinese Central Government adopted March 8 International Women's Day as Women's Day in China.
