The number of new reported cases of A/H1N1 diseases in Cambodia have dramatically diminished, according to the government's statement showed Friday.

As of Friday, the total A/H1N1 related cases are 557, only slightly increased for more than a month ago that stood at 544.

The number of total deaths, so far, resulted from the disease remain six.

In previous months since the disease was first affected Cambodia in late June in 2009, the number of infection on monthly basis was alarming.

Sok Touch, director of the communicable disease control department of Ministry of Health said the slow down of the disease infection was due to the efforts and the continued campaigns conducted across the country with the supports from the government, people and international organizations and foreign donors.

He said Cambodia's Ministry of Health and WHO have continued their efforts in advising people around the country to protect themselves and the families, by saying each individual should cover mouth and nose with a mask or tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of tissue in a bin; wash hands regularly with soap and hot water; do not spit in public; and avoid close contact with sick people.

They also advised that for immediate treatment of the disease, the sick person shall drink lots of liquids; rest and paracetamol to reduce fever and muscle aches or to consult with doctors at the nearest places, clinics, and hospitals.

The infected cases are still reported from 13 out of the country's 24 provinces and cities across the country.
