The Chinese mainland confirmed 132 new cases of the A/H1N1 influenza in the 48 hours ending 3:00 PM on Wednesday, bringing the total to 2,861, the Ministry of Health said on its website.
Among the newly confirmed, 34 were "imported cases," and the remainders were infected on the Chinese mainland, said the ministry.
More than 2,500 of all infected have recovered, the ministry said, adding that the influenza had so far caused no deaths on the mainland.
The Chinese mainland reported its first critical case of the A/H1N1 flu on August 13. The case involved a 17-year-old high school student in the southern province of Guangdong who had been in a coma for about a week by that time.
He was later diagnosed with a rare genetic disease named Brugada Syndrome, which was believed to have led to his critical condition, according to his doctors.
Doctors have lifted the patient from A/H1N1 quarantine after tests showed he was negative for A/H1N1 for three consecutive days since last Saturday. However, he is still in a coma and suffering severe brain edema.
Moreover, on July 1, one infected patient in Hangzhou, in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, reportedly died of electrocution in a ward lavatory. The death was thought to have been caused by a faulty electrical circuit.
