A spokesman for Hong Kong Department of Health (DH) said there had been 185 newly confirmed cases of A/H1N1 influenza in the 24 hours to 2:30 PM (0630 GMT) on Saturday.

The new cases involve 99 males and 86 females, aged between one and 81. One of the cases was from an elderly home in Kwai Tsing, the spokesman said.

This brings to 6,825 the total number of A/H1N1 influenza cases in Hong Kong.

The case in the elderly home involved a 64-year-old man. He was admitted to the hospital on August 13. His current condition is stable.

A respiratory specimen taken from him by the hospital was tested positive for A/H1N1 influenza. DH staff had visited the institution and provided health advice, the spokesman said.

"There is no influenza-like illness outbreak in the institution and Tamiflu has been given to the staff and close contacts of the patient as antiviral chemoprophylaxis," he said.

"The department will keep the staff and residents of the elderly home under medical surveillance," said the spokesman.
