Australia's tally of A/H1N1 flu-related deaths reached seven on Monday following the deaths of two Victorian men.

The two men, aged 50 and 85, had underlying medical conditions.

Victoria's deputy chief health officer Rosemary Lester revealed the Department of Human Services was told of the deaths over the weekend.

"The 50-year-old was being treated for a life-threatening cancer and was later diagnosed with A/H1N1 flu," Lester said, adding "he died while receiving treatment in hospital.

"The 85-year-old man also had a range of underlying medical conditions and was being treated in hospital. These pre-existing conditions made him more susceptible to any influenza-like illnesses."

Lester said the families of both men have requested that no details of their medical history be released.
