Ecuador reported 11 new A/H1N1 flu cases on Sunday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 84.

Among the total cases, eight was reported in the capital city of Quito, 66 in the southwestern city of Guayaquil, four in Azuay, three in El Oro and one each in Manabi, Canar and Chimborazo, health authorities said.

Ecuadorian Health Ministry has pledged to intensify anti-flu measures after the World Health

Organization (WHO) declared the new strain of A/H1N1 flu a global pandemic.

Health Minister Caroline Chang said last week that the WHO's declaration triggered six months of ever-tighter measures in Ecuador.

Ecuador's first flu case was a minor from the port city of Guayaquil, who returned from the United States on May 10.
