Britain's Department of Health confirmed on Wednesday 43 new cases of A/H1N1 flu infections, with the total number of cases in the country reaching 750.
A Department of Health statement said 42 of the newly-confirmed cases were from England and one from Northern Ireland. The new national total also included 32 cases in Scotland announced later on Tuesday by the Scottish government.
Testing of the A/H1N1 flu virus is now carried out by the Health Protection Agency's regional network of laboratories.
To date, 477 cases have been confirmed in England, 264 in Scotland, seven in Northern Ireland and two in Wales.
"The localized cases of swine flu found in the UK have so far been generally mild in most people, but are proving to be severe in a small minority of cases. We have not yet seen evidence of sustained community transmission," said the Health Department statement.
"We are continuing to work to slow the spread of the disease and to put in place arrangements to ensure that the UK is well-placed to deal with this new infection," added the statement.
The Health Department pledged to be prepared for the possibility of a global pandemic.
What's more, according to the Health Protection Agency, 607 cases are currently under laboratory investigation in Britain.
