Malaysian scientists plan to conduct a trial testing of a vaccine against A/H1N1 flu on pigs next week, a government official said on Thursday.

The testing will be conducted on about 10,000 pigs in the Perak State and it would take six weeks for the results, said Veterinary Services Department Director-General Abd Aziz Jamaluddin.

If it is proven effective, the department will propose the vaccination for all the 1.7 million pigs nationwide, he was quoted as saying by local media.

The move is aimed at protecting the public's health, he said.

The official also said the department was examining all the 776pig farms in the country and almost 80 percent of them were found free of the virus.
