Britain's Department of Health confirmed on Tuesday 47 new cases of the A/H1N1 flu infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 184.

Of the 47 new cases, said a statement from the department, 44 were linked to an ongoing investigation of a school outbreak in the west Midlands, England. The other three patients from London and east England were either returning travelers or linked to a previously confirmed case.

"The localized cases of swine flu found in the UK have so far been mild, and we have not seen evidence of widespread community transmission," said a spokesperson from the Department of Health.

"Our strategy of containing the spread with anti-virals appears to have been effective in reducing symptoms and preventing further spread of infection," added the spokesperson.

The department pledged to be prepared for the possibility of a global pandemic and continue to ensure the country is "well-placed to deal with this new infection."
