Peruvian Health Minister Oscar Ugarte said on Friday that two suspected cases of the A/H1N1 influenza were reported in the country and they are undergoing medical examination.

"There are two people who arrived in the last 24 hours from the United States with symptoms similar (to the flu)," Ugarte told the press, adding "The test labs will analyze the cases in the coming 48 hours."

Ugarte also said that both patients were young people and they received examination and treatment.

"One of them was isolated in Daniel Alcides Carrion hospital, in Callao province, nearby Lima, while the other is in his own house," Ugarte said.

Ugarte confirmed on Thursday that the first case of human flu in Peru was a patient coming from New York, the United States, on May 9, adding the patient is being treated and recovering.

The minister said it is unnecessary to be panic and the government has been taking necessary measures.

"We want to prove that the country can detect (the cases) on time, make the diagnosis and give treatment," Ugarte added.

"We should not relax vigilance because the virus could arrive from any country, not only from Mexico or the United States," Ugarte said, adding that Peru has tightened control in the airports to detect any case of human flu.
