Ecuadorian health authorities reported on Friday the first case of A/H1N1 flu in the country.
The patient is a boy of 12 years old who lives in Guayaquil city, Ecuadorian Health Vice Minister Ricardo Canizarez said, adding that a lab confirmed the causes and the sample was sent to the United States to be analyzed again.
The boy arrived in Ecuador on Sunday from Miami, the United States, where he traveled to have a surgery.
The patients had passed the health controls set in the airport of Jose Joaquin Olmedo from Guayaquil, but he went to Infectology Hospital "Jose Daniel Rodriguez" in Guayaquil on Monday because he had the symptoms.
Due to that reason, the authorities decided to keep an epidemic control in his school, and it also quarantined 700 students from the school and suspended the activities for eight days. The students are also forbidden to attend public events.
The condition of the patient who is quarantined in his house was stable, authorities said. On Tuesday one of his teachers detected the symptoms of the boy and sent him back to his house and informed the authorities about the cases, as it was ordered by the authorities.
The Health Ministry contacted the patients and took his samples to make lab tests at the Investigations Institute "Leopoldo Izquieta Perez" in Guayaquil, and after 48 hours the case was confirmed as the H1N1 flu.
The first confirmation must be submitted for a second confirmation in the Center of Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, the United States, and the results will be ready in one week.
