The boy who was sick after returning from Mexico had had a normal human flu according to laboratory tests, Thai Public Health deputy permanent secretary Dr.Paijit Warachit said on Friday.
Also, the boy, who is in Thailand's northern province of Pitsanuloke, is currently recovering, said the deputy permanent secretary.
The Thai boy was admitted in Pitsanuloke province's major hospital on May 13 after developing flu symptoms, according to Dr. Paijit.
Meanwhile, the number of quarantined patients in Thailand is expected to rise since more Thai people understand the A/H1N1 flu outbreak and have physical checkups after developing the flu-like symptoms, said Dr. Paijit.
The Ministry distributed several thousands of the antiviral Oseltamivir to disease control offices, hospitals, and public health stations nationwide, said Disease Control Department Director-General Dr. Somchai Jakkraphan.
Apart from the antiviral Oseltamivir, the Ministry has also planned to spend 15 million baht (US$434,000) to import the new antiviral Zamamivir as a precautionary step to curb the A/H1N1 flu outbreak, the Disease Control Department Director-General said.
