The Colombian government confirmed on Tuesday that the total number of influenza A/H1N1 cases in the country has risen to six from three.

Spokesman of the Colombian Social Protection Ministry Jose Fernando Cardona said that two of the new patients were from the Casanare department in the east of the country, while the remaining one was in the national capital Bogota. They were all members of a sports delegation that visited the United States last month.

"The three new positive cases are of people from Casanare between 17 and 26 years old, who traveled to Florida (US), and when coming back they had symptoms so they went to the doctor," Cardona noted.

According to Cardona, the infected people were "in good health conditions" and at their home.

"Those patients are being monitored by the sanitary authorities, none of them are hospitalized. We have 182 suspicious cases, four possible and three of them are people who were near infected people," Cardona added.

The Colombian government reported on Sunday that two people tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu virus in Casanare region, and one of them was a sportsman who had been in the United States in April.

The confirmed cases in Colombia included four in Yopal, one in Bogota and one in Zipaquira, near Bogota.
