Some 462 schools were closed and nearly 300,000 students out of school in the US state of Texas on Monday because of concerns about the deadly A/H1N1 flu, state education authorities said.
The Texas Education Agency estimates that more than 299,000 students were affected by the closing of the 462 schools across the state, according to local media reports.
Meanwhile, a Houston middle school reopened on Monday, ahead of schedule with health authorities' approval.
Confirmed cases of influenza A/H1N1 were 41 in Texas on Monday, the second most after New York City, according to latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The first and so far the only human A/H1N1 flu death in the United States was reported in Texas, as a 23-month-old Mexican toddler who was visiting relatives died from the disease in a Houston hospital last month.
