France confirmed two A/H1N1 flu human infections and is monitoring a third case, investigating 34 more possible cases, Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot announced on Friday.
The infections by the A/H1N1 flu virus were detected in a 49-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, who are being treated in northern and central Paris respectively. Another 37-year-old man is strongly suspected of being infected and is being carefully treated and monitored, said the minister.
"These people are well. They have been given antiviral treatments," she said. All three have traveled to Mexico recently, thus it is not an infection that has been passed on in France, she added.
Other 34 suspected infections are also being investigated throughout the country, the health minister said.
The A/H1N1 infections, originating in Mexico, have been confirmed in 14 countries as of Friday, with 17 confirmed deaths and 653 sickened, according to the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
