Western Oregon University (WOU) is being closed for at least four days starting from Friday after a student was suspected to have A/H1N1 flu, the university has announced.

The student exhibited flu-like symptoms earlier this week and then tested positive for influenza A/H1N1 at the university's student health center, WOU president John Minahan said in a statement posted on the university's website on Friday.

"The student, who lives off campus, is receiving medical treatment," said the statement.

Specimen of the student will be sent to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for further testing, and the results are expected to be known by Monday.

As a precaution, the university decided to close its campus through May 4 pending the CDC confirmation.

At this time, all on-campus university events are canceled. Students living on campus are encouraged to continue living in their residence halls, all faculty and staff members are requested to stay home.

"The decision to re-open campus will be determined when the results of the CDC testing have been received," Minahan noted.

According to WOU, the university has an enrollment of over 5,000 students as well as about 700 faculty and staff members.
