Scientists of the state-owned National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) have been working on the new virus of the A/H1N1 flu, which has killed many people worldwide.
According to Carlos Arias Ortiz, head of UNAM biotechnology institute, UNAM researchers are able and ready to give details of the molecular and genetic structure of the new virus.
"With a recent and sophisticated methodology, called mass DNA sequencing, we can discover new pathogens," he said on Thursday.
He said that the UNAM could help make home diagnosis kits and produce antiviral medicine Tamiflu, if the necessary patents can be obtained from the owners of the drug's patent, using bacteria as drug factories.
He also called on the people to maintain close vigilance on the evolution of the epidemic, and follow preventative measures recommended by the central government to halt the disease's spread.
