Indonesia Temporary Halts Pork Import

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister of People Welfare Aburizal Bakrie said that the government has decided to temporary halt pork import to prevent swine flu spread possibility to human following the disease outbreak in some North America's countries, the national news agency Antara reported on Monday.

"We decide to halt pork import until we receive further development of the case, until we think that the condition is safe," he said.

It was suspected that swine flue has mutated and could quickly spread from human to human.

Earlier, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Chan declared the swine flu as 'public health emergency' that needed international attention.

According to the organization's data, as of April 26, 2009, the United States of America's government has found 20 swine flu cases in human that positively confirmed according to laboratory examination.

Indonesian Health Ministry's Director General of Disease Control Tjandra Yoga Aditama said that there were influenza virus strains of H1N1 subtype that attacked human and pigs.
