The focus in quake-battered Yushu county has shifted from rescue efforts to reconstruction work.

More than 10,000 officers and soldiers stationed in the quake-hit area are working at full speed, clearing debris, building shelters and helping orphans and widows. Two bases in the area are in operation to provide materials, fuel and food support. According to the schedule, the debris will be completely cleared within 15 to 20 days. Meanwhile, the transportation department began evaluations and to plan highway reconstruction in the area.

The rescue headquarters said late Sunday that the death toll from the quake had climbed to 2,220. As of 5:00 PM Sunday, 70 people were still missing.
