A total of 28,000 milliliters of blood has gone to the quake-hit area in northwest China's Qinghai Province, an official with the Ministry of Health said Friday.

The blood was transported by road from Qinghai's provincial blood center, said Wang Yu at the press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu at 7:49 AM Wednesday. As of 8:00 AM Friday, the quake had left 791 dead, 294 missing, and 11,486 injured, according to the quake relief headquarters.

Another 200,000 milliliters of blood had been delivered from the Beijing Blood Center to the Qinghai provincial blood center on Friday afternoon, ready to be shipped to the quake zone at any time, Wang said.

The Yushu blood station and Qinghai provincial blood center also launched an emergency campaign to mobilize voluntary blood donation locally, according to Wang.

Other provinces including Shaanxi, Gansu and Sichuan were also prepared to supply blood to the affected area, Wang said.
