SOS Children's Villages in China will take in orphans from Yushu in northwestern Qinghai Province, hit by a major earthquake early Wednesday morning.
SOS Children's Villages in Chengdu, Urumqi, Beijing and Tianjin will contact the civil affairs department in Yushu and prepare for the arrival of the orphans, the organization's office said Friday.
The total number of orphans in Yushu is not available.
An orphanage sponsored by the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture government has 208 children, who all survived the earthquake.
Six of the children were trapped after the quake but were quickly rescued, said Nyima Rigzin, the orphanage director, when Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met him Thursday afternoon.
The death toll had climbed to 791 and another 294 people remained missing as of 8:00 AM Friday, 48 hours after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake shook Yushu.
