Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Sunday that China will work with other parities to enable G20 summit to play an "even bigger and more practical role" in promoting world economic governance.

Yang made the remarks at a press conference held on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature.

Yang said the G20 mechanism had played an important role in countering the international financial crisis and had been identified as an important platform for international economic cooperation.

"We are happy to see our neighbor, the Republic of Korea, will hold G20 summit around the yearend, and before that another G20 summit will be held in Canada." Yang said.

Yang said he expected international communities to give priority to meeting the targets of reforming the international financial institutions.

"We should work together to facilitate recovery and growth of the international economy and particularly address the imbalance of international economic development," he noted.

All parties should increase coordination on macro economic policies and hold discussions on exit strategy, which also needs policy coordination, he said.

"We should work together to oppose trade protectionism and facilitate a comprehensive and balanced agreement to the Doha round of negotiations." Yang said.
