Red Cross Society of China Raises 5 Mln Yuan for Haiti Quake Victims

The Red Cross Society (RCS) of China said on Wednesday it had so far received about 5 million yuan (US$732,284) in donations from Chinese enterprises, organizations and individuals for earthquake-struck Haiti.
The Alibaba.com, a major global online marketplace, donated 2 million yuan, which was the largest amount the charity organization had received from enterprises.
The officers with the RSC said Chinese people had been keen to offer donations in recent days with the largest sum from a single individual being 50,000 yuan.
Chinese charity organizations are soliciting help from the society for victims in the Haiti quake.
The China Charity Federation on Monday released on its website channels for public donations, including banks, post offices or face-to-face transfers.
