A Philippine consular team arrived in Haiti Monday to oversee relief operations of Filipino earthquake victims, according to a press statement issued by the foreign affairs department.
Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo has instructed Philippine Ambassador to Cuba Macarthur Corsino, who arrived in Port-au-Prince Monday afternoon, to help affected Filipinos there as well as assist in the repatriation of those who want to return to the Philippines.
The arriving Philippine consular team will also link up with the peacekeeping contingent, Philippine Honorary Consul in Haiti Fitzgerald Brandt, and Filipino community members.
Earlier, Filipinos in the Delmas district were given rice, sugar, oatmeal, and bottles of coffee. They were also given instructions on how to contact the Philippine contingent.
Delmas is a district in Haiti's capital where a sizeable number of Filipinos reside.
There is still no proof of life for the six missing Filipinos trapped inside collapsed buildings in Haiti, one week after the earthquake struck.
