Spain will donate an extra of 5 million euros (US$7.18 million) to quake-hit Haiti to help finance its public services, said Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega on Sunday.
Spain would send a hospital ship to Haiti, Fernandez said upon her arrival in Port-au-Prince onboard a military plane carrying 12 tons of emergency aid.
"We are not going to fail the Haitian people, although the situation is tremendously difficult."
"I have come here to show our solidarity with the Haitian people. We have been with them from the very first moment,"she said.
Spain has already donated 6 million euros (US$8.61 million) for the quake victims: 3 million to cover immediate expenses, the rest to finance the Pan American Health Organization.
