China Monitoring Haiti Situation

The Chinese community in Haiti is relatively small and includes 200 Haitian Chinese and peacekeeping troops. The 8th Chinese peacekeeping troop's 125 members have been conducting their mission in the country since June. The squad is made of mostly border-control police from Southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Since China has no diplomatic relations with Haiti, the Chinese commercial development bureau in Haiti, takes the responsibility for all business affairs with the country. All six people in the bureau including staff and relatives are safe. The Chinese community in Haiti numbers about 200 Haitian Chinese, along with an unknown number of Chinese nationals doing business and traveling in the country.
