Palestinians, Int'l Activists Rally on Gaza Border

Tens of Palestinians and international activists on Monday marched near Gaza's northern border for the second time in a week, protesting against Israeli attempt to create a buffer zone along its borders with the Gaza Strip.

The demonstrators gathered in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza Strip, waving Palestinian flags and banners against the Israeli restrictions.

The participants neglected an Israeli warning to stay for 300 meters away from an electric fence separating between Gaza and Israel and entered the area.

"We are here to say we reject the buffer zone that the Israeli army is imposing and to say this is an illegal action," said Eva Bartlett, a Canadian pro-Palestinian activist.

Israel says the no-go zone is 300 meters wide, "but in fact, it shoots at any Palestinian for 2 km away from the border," she added.

In the densely populated Gaza, a buffer zone means that more farmers won't be able to work in their lands since they mostly locate on the outskirts of the communities, usually near the border.
