A Palestinian man was killed and another one injured early on Tuesday in a new tunnel collapse incident in southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, paramedics said.

The 32-year-old Jamal Abu Samak was suffocated to death inside the tunnel that collapsed beneath the border with Egypt and a second worker was badly injured. Five others are still missing, according to the health ministry emergency crews.

This is the second incident in this week. On Monday afternoon, the rescue teams completed a 24-hour search mission, pulling up seven burnt bodies of Palestinians who were killed following a fuel leak that caused fire inside one of the underground tunnels.

The latest fatalities in the two incidents raise the death toll of the underground business to 110, and all of them have been killed since Israel imposed a siege on the Gaza Strip in June 2007.

Hundreds of tunnels are used for smuggling goods and products, including fuel and livestock, to the Gaza Strip from Egypt. Some tunnels collapse while being dug beneath Rafah's sandy soil.
