Egypt Invites Hamas to Continue Palestinian Dialogue

A delegation from Hamas will travel to Cairo Saturday to resume what is believed to be the final round of inter-Palestinian dialogue, a Hamas official said on Tuesday.
"Hamas received an invitation from Egypt to continue the reconciliation talks," Salah al-Bardaweel, a Hamas lawmaker, told Xinhua.
Hamas' delegation will comprise leaders from the Gaza Strip and exiled officials who are based in Syria, according to al-Bardaweel.
However, Hamas will not start mutual talks with rival Fatah movement unless the secular party of President Mahmoud Abbas releases all Hamas supporters from the Palestinian National Authority(PNA)'s jails in the West Bank, according to al-Bardaweel.
"The arrests are the main obstacle that prevents any progress on the dialogue's topics," al-Bardaweel said.
The Islamic Hamas movement and Fatah have been cracking down against each other since Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and seized control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007. Abbas consolidated his rule in the West Bank.
On Monday, a Fatah official said President Abbas had ordered his security forces to free all Hamas prisoners except those who pose a security threat.
