Egypt will open its borders with the Gaza Strip for three days for stranded Palestinians at both sides to travel across the border, a Palestinian official said on Monday.
Ghazi Hamad, director of crossings department at the Hamas administration, said the Rafah crossing point will be operating in two directions for three days starting from June 27.
People stranded at the two sides of the border, in addition to patients, students and other humanitarian cases, would be able to travel, Hamad said in a statement.
The statement noted that only those who had reserved tickets and registered at Hamas' Interior Ministry would be able to have access to the crossing point.
Egypt and Israel sealed off their borders with the Gaza Strip after the Islamic Hamas movement seized the coastal territory in June 2007. Egypt used to open its borders on an irregular basis only for humanitarian cases.
Hamas does not recognize a US-brokered protocol which stipulates that Rafah crossing point can not function without the presence of European Union (EU) monitors and security forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas which were routed by Hamas.
