Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement will hold talks with the Islamic Hamas movement in Cairo on June 28, a Fatah official said on Monday.
The talks would be the last round of bilateral discussions between Hamas and Fatah as part of the Egyptian-sponsored national Palestinian dialogue, said Ahmed Qurei, head of the Fatah delegation to the national dialogue.
"On July 5, leaders of the Palestinian factions will be invited to Cairo and an agreement on ending the rift would be signed on July 7," Qurei said in an interview with the Ramallah-based al-Ayyam daily.
Moussa Abu Marzouq, deputy chief of Hamas politburo, will head Hamas officials in the coming round of talks in Cairo, which are aimed to restore political unity to the Hamas-controlled Gaza and the Fatah-ruled West Bank, according to Qurei.
Hamas and Fatah have not yet reached a final agreement on forming a unity government, holding elections and reforming the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), Qurei said.
"The Egyptian brothers push heavily to bridge the gaps," he added.
On Sunday, Hamas and Fatah representatives met in Gaza City for the first time in two years. The meeting was held through the reconciliation committee which was formed by the two sides during the previous rounds of the dialogue.
The reconciliation committee agreed on taking steps to end the politically-motivated arrests Hamas and Fatah have been exchanging since Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and seized control of Gaza in 2007.
