Abbas Spokesman Urges Israeli PM to Endorse Two-state Solution

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' spokesman on Sunday called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to obligate his right-wing government to accept the two-state solution.
The call was made after Netanyahu announced his plan to deliver a key speech responding to US calls for freezing Jewish settlements in the West Bank and adopting the two-state solution which envisions a Palestinian statehood alongside Israel.
"Netanyahu's address must meet the two-state solution," Abbas' spokesman Nabil Abu Rdineh told Xinhua, adding Netanyahu must also reflect a commitment to "stop the settlement and abide by the Road Map."
He urged the Israeli government "to take immediate measures on the ground to pave the way for resuming peace negotiations," which stalled officially when Netanyahu government was in office in late March.
Netanyahu rejected US President Barack Obama's calls for freezing the settlement activities in the West Bank which will be the largest part of the future statehood.
In the wake of Netanyahu's refusal to halt settlement, Israeli reports said that the United States will propose to delimit the West Bank borders to prevent further expansion of the settlements.
