Haneya Opposes Forming a Large Cabinet in West Bank

Deposed prime minister of Hamas government in Gaza Ismail Haneya rejected on Tuesday President Mahmoud Abbas' decision to form a new larger government headed by Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.
Haneya told his weekly cabinet meeting held in Gaza on Tuesday that "we expected from President Abbas to remove obstacles instead of laying mines before the reconciliation dialogue."
Right after Hamas movement took control of Gaza Strip by force and ousted Abbas security forces from the enclave, Abbas deposed Haneya and his national unity government formed after Mecca deal reached in February 2007.
Although, Abbas designated Fayyad to form a caretaker government after Hamas Gaza takeover, Haneya rejected Abbas decree and insisted that his government is the legal one and it can't be deposed.
"We had always showed flexibility. All what we sea now and all what we notice and also follow is that there are hard positions made by some of Ramallah leaders that show their political ignorance," said Haneya.
Well-informed Palestinian sources had earlier said that Abbas asked Fayyad to form a new larger cabinet with more new ministers and include factions in Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
However, several factions opposed joining Fayyad's new government and insisted that they would only join a unity government formed after reaching a reconciliation agreement among the factions, mainly Fatah and Hamas.
Meanwhile, Fatah movement's spokesman in the West Bank Fahmi Za'arir said the forming a new government can never be an obstacle before succeeding the inter-dialogue due to be held in Cairo on May 16.
"As soon as a reconciliation agreement is reached among the factions, any formed new government will immediately resign and a unity government will be immediately formed," Za'arir said in a press statement.
