Haneya Calls on Europe to Rub out Hamas from List of Terrorism

Deposed Prime Minister of Hamas government in Gaza Ismail Haneya called on Saturday on Europe to erase his movement from the list of world's terrorist organizations.

Haneya's appeal was made in a speech he addressed from Gaza to the seventh European-Palestinian Conference held in Milano in Italy. Gaza Strip has been under a tight Israeli blockade since Hamas took control of Gaza in June 2007.

Although Hamas movement won in the legislative elections held in the Palestinian territories in 2006, Europe and the United States still list the movement among other Islamic and international terrorist groups.

However, the international Quartet said the embargo on Hamas would be lifted only if it accepts Israel, the signed interim agreements and condemn violence.

Hamas armed wing had carried out hundreds of suicide bombing attacks into Israel that killed hundreds of Israelis. In return Israel carried out hundreds of offensives on Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians were killed.

Haneya called on the conference to send an investigation committee to the Gaza Strip to check out "the war crimes committed by the occupation during the last war on Gaza and to bring the war criminals to international courts."

Meanwhile, Haneya reiterated that his movement is keen to end the current political rift between Gaza, which controlled by Hamas and President Mahmoud Abbas who rules the West Bank.

"We are opened for dialogue and also for being opened to Europe to deepen our ties and put it on the right track," Haneya said. "Europe is urged to rub out Hamas from the list of terrorist groups."
